Metaverse Champions: Let The Hunt Begin!

The Metaverse Champions Logo Sadly, there was no Egg Hunt this year. Instead, ROBLOX has given us the Metaverse Champions event, which is similar, but not quite the same. Allow me to explain! There are 4 champions that you need to unlock, each week you can get 4 different crates (one for each champion). There's 4 weeks total, which means a total of 16 crates. Still following? (It can get confusing).  To add to that, every time you play a mission for a champion, they get points and the champion with the most points at the end, will get an additional accessory that all players can claim. To add on, even more, there are 4 additional special crates! Like with egg hunt there's an admin chest, a developer chest, a video star chest, and a new and exciting MVP chest.  Video Star Chest MVP Chest Developer Chest Admin Chest So good luck! Be sure to check back for more updates on the event!

ROBLOX Hack Week 2020 Breakdown

Each year, ROBLOX does something known as ROBLOX Hack Week. Employees at ROBLOX take the week to push the limits of what ROBLOX can do, by creating features and improvements to gameplay, the studio, and the website. Here's a breakdown of some of the things ROBLOX Employees created this year. Keep in mind, none of these features are necessarily going to be added (although sometimes they do!).

ROBLOX Games Page

This feature is pretty cool! It creates a smooth, more fluid 'Games' page. Certainly would not mind seeing this in the future!

Location-based Games

Arguably one of the coolest on the list, this allows for 'Pokemon Go' style gameplay within ROBLOX.

Handle IP Address Changes

This one allows for smoother gameplay. If your IP Address is changed during gameplay, it won't disconnect you from the game, a small but nifty change.

Layered Procedural Texturing

Allows you to layer textures which creates some super realistic looking graphics, very impressive!

Heatmap Engagement Analytics

This allows you to see where people spend the most time in your game. Useful for getting much more detailed analytics on your game as you can see exactly what keeps people's interest and what doesn't.

Live OPS Support

Change billboards and text in-game... in real-time!

Automated Emotion Based on Chat

Your character's animation will change based on the tone set in the chat. A really cool feature, especially for social games.

Geometric Audio Absorption

Right now, if you have a sound in a ROBLOX game, the further away from the source, the quieter it gets. Nothing can really block the sound. With this feature, different materials will actually absorb the sound, so if noise is behind a stone wall, it will sound extremely muffled. This is really useful for immersive games that try to create realistic experiences.

Image-based Password

Instead of typing in a pesky password, you can just select from a series of images in a certain order (almost like Simon!) to log in. Less secure, but more fun!

Using Data Sketches to Improve Search and Discovery

The more popular/relevant to you something is, the more likely it is to show up in your search results.

UI Vector

This would allow you to upload vector graphics to build user interfaces. Super useful for creating games on a wide variety of screens. It also allows for more interactive menus.

If you found any of this interesting, be sure to check out ROBLOX's video here to see all of these features in action! Which of these would you like to see implemented? Personally, I think the layered procedural texturing and the location-based games are the coolest! Let me know what you think in the comments!
